Ölüdeniz may look small on a map, but the area around the famous lagoon is made up of several very different places to stay. Some are lively and loud, others are green and quiet. Knowing where to stay in Ölüdeniz before you book can make the difference between a holiday that suits you and one you spend wishing you were somewhere else.

Where to Stay in Ölüdeniz: The Main Areas at a Glance

All of the areas below are linked by the local dolmuş (minibus), which runs every few minutes in summer between Fethiye, Ovacık, Hisarönü and the beach. This guide to using the dolmuş explains how it works.

Belcekız beachfront

This is the strip behind the main beach, lined with restaurants, bars and cafés, with paragliders landing on the sand throughout the day. Everything is on your doorstep, but it is also the busiest and noisiest part of the resort in summer. The lagoon itself is a protected natural area, so you will not find hotels right on its shore.

Between the beach and the hills

The road climbing up from the beach towards Ovacık passes the main station of the Babadağ cable car. Staying here keeps the sea within walking distance while putting some welcome space between you and the late night noise of the strip. The cable car station is also a dolmuş stop, as this Fethiye Times guide to the cable car explains.

Ovacık

Set on a green plateau above Ölüdeniz, Ovacık is generally quieter, with mountain views and a more relaxed evening atmosphere. It is also home to the official starting point of the Lycian Way, which makes it popular with walkers. The beach is a short dolmuş ride downhill.

Hisarönü

Right next to Ovacık, Hisarönü is the area’s nightlife hub, with busy bars, music venues and plenty of budget friendly accommodation. It suits groups and night owls more than couples looking for calm.

Kıdrak

Just south of the main beach, Kıdrak is a quiet bay surrounded by pine forest within a protected nature park. It feels secluded and peaceful, but you will need taxis or a car to reach the restaurants and activities of the main resort.

Which Area Suits Your Holiday?

There is no single right answer to where to stay in Ölüdeniz. It depends on the kind of holiday you want.

  • For couples and a peaceful break: Ovacık or the area between the beach and the hills offer calm evenings without cutting you off from the sea.
  • For nightlife and a social atmosphere: Hisarönü and the beachfront keep going late, especially in July and August.
  • For walkers and adventure seekers: Ovacık and the cable car area put the Lycian Way and the Babadağ launch sites close by. Our guides to walking the Lycian Way and paragliding in Ölüdeniz have more detail.

What to Look For When Choosing Your Ölüdeniz Hotel

  • Real walking distance to the beach: Ölüdeniz sits at the foot of steep hills, so a hotel described as close to the beach may still mean an uphill walk home in the heat. Check the route on a map, not just the distance.
  • Noise after dark: In peak summer, music from bars can carry a long way. Look at how near a hotel is to the main entertainment streets before you book.
  • Adults only or family friendly: An adults only hotel brings a quieter pool, calmer evenings and a slower pace, which for many couples makes the biggest difference of all.

Sejo Vista is a small, adults only Ölüdeniz hotel in the area between the beach and the hills, opposite the Babadağ cable car station and 600 metres from the sea.
